when to buy lungwort

YnneadYnnead Posts: 250
I'm thinking of ordering some pulmonaria to plant out next year. I know these plants die down for winter. Is it better to wait till spring next year? Just being tempted by sales at the moment lol.

they don't all die down in winter, plenty of leaves in my garden. Expecting a few flowers by January. If you buy from a reliable source you should be OK if you can care for them. If you get tiny plants in a long cold spell and nowhere to shelter them you could have difficulties

As you suggest, this one does disappear in winter and isn't such an early flowerer. I would need to be very sure of a company to order something I couldn't see on arrival.

There is a good recent (updated) thread here. There is a wide variety of cultivars mentioned and various online sellers.

@nutcutlet.   I’ve got lots of the Rubra you sent me years ago,  transplanted it in lots of different places.   Lovely early flowers for the bees.

That's good to know @Lyn. I thought I'd lost it in the hot, dry summer of 22, but it's making a comeback now

Hi Ynnead , I grew mine from seed about 20 years ago.  They have multiplied quite considerably and flower every year.  So far, they have survived freezing winters and scorching droughts.  (I never water the garden, just the pots and newly planted shrubs/trees.)  Mine are the usual sort, nothing too special but I like them enormously.

That was 20 years ago, Ynnead and, unfortunately, that little shop that sold seeds and flowers closed down several years ago.  They were Brown's seeds.  I googled Brown's for you just now but I couldn't see any.  However, I found these on ebay.
