Sarcococca confusa

Has anyone had any success in germinating seeds straight from the berries ?

I tried a couple of years ago - as far as I can recall I used sieved soil with a bit of MPC and left them in my cold frame. The seeds weren't dried beforehand. No results.

Plenty of berries this year so thought I'd try again ( coastal West Somerset ).  The advice I've seen is doing in Autumn or Spring but nothing much helpful.

Appreciate any methods which have worked for you.

I've had a few self seedings. But it puts up shoots round the main plant and those have been my propagation material

  • Thanks all  :)
  • I think it is common to find seedlings at the base of a mature shrub. I have pulled lots of them up over the years. It was in a garden where the soil was rarely disturbed.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • I've grown dozens from cutting as well and they are very easy.
  • No signs of self set seedlings unfortunately and no bare soil for sticking cuttings in either.  Maybe I'll give the seeds another go when ( or even if ) I get my cold frames fixed.
    Thanks again  :)
