I despair for humanity 🤣

Apparently there's a shortage of Venus flytraps because of the John Lewis Christmas advert (I haven't even watched it). For such an unassuming plant it must be looking amazing in the advert 🤣

  • Yes they'll be fine they're fully hardy...I wonder how many of those buyers will just try to keep them as houseplants.

'Carniflore Tammie' might be a better idea on the Jelly cat website, if you like 'cute'.
At least he won't need watering and doesn't need flies to survive.
You can also get a bauble to go with the John Lewis Ad, I think I will pass on that one personally.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • 🤣 @GardenerSuze yes they have to make a whole lot of toot to justify spending £4m on an advert.

  • @amancalledgeorge That is a crazy amount of money. I wonder if any of their profits go to charity.

  • It really is @GardenerSuze and they pretty much have forced all big retailers to follow suit every year. They must have some charitable causes they support but I imagine less money is going that direction as they have struggled in the last couple of years.

Not all companies have followed suit.  Iceland have scrapped their Christmas advert.

Iceland has revealed the reason it will not be releasing a Christmas advert this year in a heartfelt statement.

The frozen foods supermarket chain confirmed there would be no Christmas advert for 2023 and said it would instead focus on using the money to slash prices on household staples and help struggling shoppers amid the cost-of-living crisis.

Iceland said it would rather invest the money in supporting its customers and do without a costly Christmas commercial.

If no flies about drop in a tiny bit of fresh raw meat into the Venus FlyTrap. They enjoy a change of diet.
  • Iceland isn't exactly a major player overall @KT53 admittedly they gave us Kerry Katona advertising prawn rings in the past...but probably a good move as they are also doing badly financially currently.

It sounds like Tim Holmes needs to get to grips with the import certification process. We experienced delays 2 or 3 years ago when it first kicked in and nobody knew quite what they were doing. The cynic in me says this is for publicity, and if it isn't then he's not particularly good at his job.
  • Much like the Aldi Carrot. They must have sold millions of the stuffed carrots, I see they have some new versions in store this year. Humour will sell anything.
I cannot remember what the product is but I enjoy the oven glove ad. this year.
