Staples - not a gardening question

What makes staples from a staple gun curl up?
I've tried leaning hard, soft, leaning it forward or back but they still curl up. I'm wasting loads of staples trying to get it right.
The really irritating thing is that now and again, they're perfect and I don't know why.
Scores of staples wasted, I eventually managed to recover the seats of a set of 1930s dining chairs but I was ready to lob one out of the window before I'd finished.

They came with the gun. Not sure if they're sharp.

I went down to garden centre last year and bought staples. A waste of money as the point on one side of all of them was bent and would not hammer into wood. Went back and looked at other various makes. All the same. Must be the way are manufactured probably in China. Make sure both end are straight and pointed.

I had much the same problem recently with my electric staple gun and a new packet of compatible staples, heavy duty ones, also used for recovering chair seats.

The first 2 or 3 staples always seemed to be averse to being fired, the rest were fine.
