Help with identifying / treatment of fungus.

We have a Robinia pseudoacacia tree in our garden. After the heavy rains recently I noticed this stuff below at the base of the trunk. What is it and does it need treatment? We would hate to lose the tree.

I am now not sure whether this is fungus or some kind of devil spawn!

After a few days it reduced

Also noticed on the ground.

Hello @animism-falls0n42026 and welcome to the forum 😊

It looks to me like one of the slime moulds … nothing to worry about.  Part of natures rich diversity. 😃  It’ll do no harm and disappear as quickly as it came.

  • Weird! Never seen these before. Thanks and good to know the poor tree is safe!
  • They’re a fascinating ‘thing’ … more closely related to an amoeba than a fungus. Ain’t Nature Wonderful?!?! 💚
