    I don't think it's too bad either. Just because you can see their door and window from the house, it doesn't necessarily mean that they can see into your house, and most people don't go out of their way to look into other people's houses or even gardens. If it's the expanse of roof tiles that you find ugly, a few strategically-placed trees will break up the view, as already suggested.

  • Another vote for Rowan/Sorbus and Amelanchia or some climbers 😊 Personally I'd avoid Laurel. I found out that it's very invasive when doing a bit of volunteering for Butterfly Conservation. It escapes (via birds and berries) and out-competes native plants.

    Cherry laurel (Prunus laurocerasus)
    Cherry laurel was introduced to Britain by 1886 and is now a common hedging choice because of its beautiful glossy leaves. Yet it can escape gardens by setting seed and spreading into woodlands. Here it can be invasive, and as an evergreen shrub creates dense shade to the detriment of native woodland plants
