It's a lovely thing to have and keep @floralies, despite the connection to the horror of war.
It's sad that people were unable to talk about their experiences back then, and in WW2. The horrors that it gave them and their families. My grandpa always seemed happy, although he never talked about any of it either, but it clearly wasn't that way for thousands of others, both then and in subsequent wars.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I do wish people would resist the urge to moralise. There are far worse things you can do to your body and those of others, than enjoy the occasional cigar and yes of course, we all know the risks 🙄
There used to be a thriving industry of locally-grown tobacco near where I used to live near Granada. The drying barns next to the growing fields were simple structures made of brick, with staggered openings that got wider toward the top. All very low-tech.
As a smoker, I shall be following your project with interest!
That's very interesting, I expect Grenada's climate is very accommodating too.
From what i can tell they are indeed fairly basic structures ranging from tarpaulin tents up to what you describe...and everything in between. Shade and good air flow seems to be key.
They do search for gangja factories. I have police helicopters flying overhead most days. I think they use heat scanners to look for people running away. A factory would be easy enough to spot. One such industrial operation up on our street in a rented house. It had been there for years and nobody suspected. The whole inside was sealed in plastic to keep the scent from escaping.
I'm pretty sure an old guy near me is growing 'herbs' in his house. I grow some plants under lights in winter, and i've spoken to him as he passed when he asked me what lights i use. His wife uses a wheel chair, and he isn't too good on his legs either. Good luck to them.
