Hi sorry if this has been asked before but can anyone recommend a good plant book guide for british plants. I dont get out much so not going out looking for plants. Just want to learn more about the plants we have in the UK. I'm thinking of buying the collins wildflower guide.
Thanks

  • The RHS A to Z of Garden Plants is pretty comprehensive.  Another is The Oxford Book of Wildflowers.

First published in 1983 but still my favourite wild flower book. And at £3.34 a good bit cheaper than when I bought it 40 years ago!

I have this book, I love the bits of info it gives you, such as how the plants were used in medicine. Great book wouldn’t be without it 🙂.

Not a book but this link has lots of useful information @Ynnead:

    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

  • My go to reference book is Keble Martin’s Concise British Flora. I’ve had it since the early 70s and have never found anything to equal it.

Every plant is meticulously and accurately illustrated and described … and botanical
terms are explained … and it included grasses.

I find it very straightforward to use and extremely reliable.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Wow @pansyface. A lot of cheap books. Thankyou for that and everyone for the replies. I'm off to check the site out now.
