Euonymus japonicus - can I give it a pruning now?

I was wondering if this large bush is a hebe, or if not what it is?
I would like to prune that whole side in the first photo, about 6 inches in, as it is starting to obstruct the opening of the garage door. Would this be OK to do at this time of year, or should I wait until spring?
I don't know what the tiny balls are showing in the second photo - I don't recall it flowering before but I'm not 100% certain.
Thank you very much.

It's a Euonymus japonicus cultivar, variegated one reverting to plain green.

    In the sticks near Peterborough

I hope it's OK, I updated the title with the correct name, for pruning advice.

They're pretty indestructible, but you could do a bit just now, and be a bit tougher in spring or early summer if you don't want to go too mad with the shears at the moment  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
