How do I attach a hose to a water butt

    The easiest way is to use one of these tap types https://www.waterbuttsdirect.co.uk/3-4-bsp-thread-water-butt-tap-w-push-on-hoselock-fitting if you are using hoselock kind of fittings on your hose.

  • Thanks so much, will give it a go tomorrow !  I just need it to drain water from the butt to the flower bed as it's an overflow gutter system from my conservatory. Straight onto the grass is not a good idea !

    If you're intending to have a tap at the bottom and an overflow near the top, so that you can maintain a full butt but take away the excess, it may not be that simple.  We tried such a system but found, by using a 40 yard normal narrow (Aldi) hose as the overflow, there wasn't enough pressure to make the overflow work.  Not logical but something to do with the friction on the inside of the hose impeding the flow of water, so you'll note the bespoke overflow system on Steephill's link uses a larger bore outlet which may be necessary.
