I am looking for an early flowering white clematis for a fence which is exposed to cold strong winds.

    The macropetala clematis are very tough and early flowering. Have a look at one called White Swan.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Many of the white clematis are non-twining. Make sure any one you choose is a twining form that will cling onto your fence.
