Overgrown plot - preparing for lawn

Hi All,

We had a hugely overgrown piece of land that we own next to our garden. We trimmed it right down and sprayed with systemic weed killer and decided to cover it whilst we consider our options.
Ideally we would like to be able to put lawn down but the ground still looks awful - lots of thick bramble roots.
I really don't know what to do next. Could we hire a mini digger to remove top layer?

Thank you for any advise / wisdom you can impart.

  • @sharpegemma79375 That stuff has to come out. If you can organise a digger, go ahead but be prepared to take out at least 20cm or 8 inches. I would assume that the stuff needs to be disposed and this costs money, too.

Constant mowing should do the job (eventually).  Compost the dead and dying greenery.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.
