Is this an outside spider?

It can't  stay where.  it is in the hallway.  It looks like one of those garden spiders you see loads of this time of year but I'm not sure. He's bit  a bit smaller.
Should it put it outside or find it a more convenient  home inside?

  • Put it outside near a shed or woodpile, it will be fine. All spiders must have been outdoors types once unless they were cave dwellers :)

I believe our common house spiders (the big ones you see indoors this time of year because they go wandering looking for a mate) here in England are effectively cave dwellers!  They are native to the Mediterranean where they inhabit dark dry places like caves and other hollows. They thrive in houses here and have slowly spread across the country, house to house over the centuries after probably arriving in cargoes from ships.

The one pictured is of course a garden spider like panseyface said.

Have you swallowed any flies recently?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Quite common down here.  These spiders spin the most beautiful webs in open spots during the spring, summer and autumn nights.  The dew catches them and they are a magnificent sight.  The French call them "Spider of the Night" - and you don't break the web!!!

Speaking of outside spiders, back bedroom has four panes of glass. Each pane has a spider. Same kind. They seem to live independently going about their spiderly business. However, I witnessed an altercation about a fat juicy wasp. Didn't see the result as I got distracted. Spiders in their corners and no wasp.
