How to rebuild a greenhouse without disturbing plants
Hi everyone I am new to the forum and in search of some ideas and advice. We have just bought a new (very old) house which comes with half an acre of garden. At one time it was laid out extensively but the previous owner was 96 when she died and the garden has been untouched for about 30 years.
Amongst (many!) other things, there is a derelict Victorian greenhouse, built by the former owner's grandfather in about 1890. It is literally falling to pieces, most of the glass is gone and the wood frame is collapsing. But it contains a large established fig tree, a thriving and established vine, and an established peach tree- not things you would expect to have survived in our bit of the North!
My question is, does anyone have any advice on whether/how it is possible to rebuild a greenhouse without killing the plants that are inside it...? I have no idea whether it will even be possible to disentangle the vine from the frame without damaging it irreparably. Or how much I can cut the plants back and still have them survive.
So I thought I would ask whether anyone has any experience of or tips about a project like this. I don't even know where to start - any ideas, advice or tips very gratefully received! Thank you!
