Not just the water companies ( tho they leave a lot to be desired ) but also the unsuitable stuff people persist in flushing into the system as well as general litter finding its way into watercourses. The general population is not blame free.
Yes, I think I got that but little point whinging about Legislative Change if the average person is not prepared to look at the basics. Until they do, they aren't likely to make enough of an issue of it to try and bring about change. It isn't easy but until you educate "people" you aren't likely to educate the policy makers either.

Yes re Welsh water and the Welsh gov allowing more and more intensive chicken farms have really done for the Wye ! I’ve fished the Wye all my life and it’s nothing like the river of my teens … very sad to see.
Rivers Trust are campaigning hard to stop the stink and rescue British rivers. They are suing the Env Agency and are going to launch a crowdfunder to support their legal challenges.
