Firstly you might profit from knowing exactly what is eating the leaves. Judging by the autumnal leaves under the tree I'm guessing you are in the UK. That being the case, most insects will be hunkering down for winter and will no longer be visible on the tree.
Sometimes there is nothing to be done when it comes to insect damage and if it isn't excessively bad, it is better to let natural predators deal with the pest rather than spraying chemicals left, right and centre as that merely makes things worse all round.
They will be dropping off any time now anyway. Most of the leaf mines will be caused by moth larvae. It may be unsightly but its not enough to harm the tree. Rake up the leaves after they fall and compost or brown bin them.
