I experimented this year by placing 5-litre plastic water containers over some seed potatoes which I'd already dibbed 8-9 inches into the soil. I covered them lightly with soil and then tipped large quantities of lawn mowings all round the bottles as they grew. The crop was impressive EXCEPT that they suffered quite badly with worm damage. Pic attached.
I planted some very shrivelled seed potatoes in pots a few weeks ago. Their first leaves are through, a bit spindly but I shall leave them for the winter, frost-protected, and lift them next Spring. I left some seed potatoes in their pots for 2 years and was surprised at the crop. A bit of scab but otherwise good.
