What Are These Seedling

Can anyone identify these seedlings. There are lots of them in my border.
Are they Lupins ???  if they are I have no idea how they got there. But I am
not certain that they are lupins.
The only possible plants are 2 x Cosmos Plants and a Couple of Dahlias but they
have not set seed yet.
Thanks

They look like Nigella to me. They seed everywhere.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    They do look nigella-ish.
Definitely not lupins. I don't think they're cosmos either - those have longer, narrower seed leaves.

  • Do you know what, you are both right. I remember having some of them nearby and I thought I had harvested all of the seed but obviously not.
Do you think they will survive over the winter or should I pull them and store them
    in the greenhouse.

Unless it is a particularly harsh winter, they will survive and flower earlier next year. I doubt they would survive being lifted and grown under glass. The self seeded ones in my Drive have been there for 3 years now, untouched by human hand.

I agree, there's more chance of them surviving the winter if you leave them be. And there might be more seeds lurking in the soil that could germinate in spring anyway. If they die you can scatter some of the seed that you harvested.
