Peony questions

Hello! I am new here. I live in Massachusetts. I got a peony earlier this year and put it in a larger pot. Should I plant it in the ground now, or leave it in the pot? Do I cut it back at all? I would like to plant it eventually but I can’t decide where I want it. But also have heard they can be finicky so I’m afraid to do anything to it.😁 Thank you!

    It would probably help to let us know if it's a herbaceous variety a tree one or an Itoh one. As they all have slightly different care requirements. As they will be shutting down for winter probably better to leave it well alone. Do you happen to have a photo of it?
