Brassica Whitefly UNDERNEATH Mesh Protection

Good Afternoon!
Another post from me, I'd just like your opinions on what I should do regarding whitefly on my brassicas (Brussels sprouts and cabbages to be specific).

I discovered yesterday when removing yellow leaves that unfortunately both of these plant types are currently covered in the blighters even though they were covered with mesh immediately after planting and is the specific grade to protect against this problem 😒They're both growing in 2 separate raised beds at my Allotment but both have been affected and a lovely cloud of white appears as soon as knock a plant so the infestation seems quite bad 😔
As I mentioned earlier the mesh was added straight after planting and is weighed down and folded over at the bottom so they must've snuck through the tiniest of gaps or when I've opened both beds up to weed quickly.

Should I just take the mesh off completely seeing as it has clearly failed in protecting against the whitefly? Or would you leave it on still to deter against other pests  ... my gut instinct is just to take the mesh off and maybe spray with a homemade garlic spray but I wanted to see what you guys thought? 🤔

I'd take the netting off and not really worry about the whitefly unless we have a prolonged warm spell. The cabbage whites should be finished and anything else will be knocked back by the upcoming cold weather.
When you harvest the cabbages, you can wash them off or you might want to blast them with a hose before then.
  • Thank you, I've stripped some of the outer leaves off from the cabbages to try and deter them. It seems to be worst on the Brussels sprouts and I've also noticed some black markings on them too ... they're usually fine every year so I'm not sure what's going on!
Il whip the mesh off first thing tomorrow morning and hope that helps them a bit 🤞🏻

If you have the sort of rain that we’ve had today they’ll have drowned, or at least they’ll be washed off …
