How can I preserve a tiny sprig of Christmas tree in a bauble?

Please can anyone suggest how I can preserve a tiny sprig of Christmas tree?  For my daughter's wedding she wants a place setting of a bauble with a sprig of Christmas tree inside, which guests can keep as a memento. I have made a sample, see photo.  Question is how to preserve the sprig long term so it doesn't go brown and the needles drop off ?  I was thinking of drying in the oven. Or dipping in water based varnish. Or spraying with hairspray.  Any suggestions would be most welcome?  (To be clear Harry Potter is not invited, I just used him as a sample name!)

Hello t.c.redman107875 and welcome to the forum. What a beautiful idea! I was trying to remember how to preserve such sprigs and I seem to remember that standing them in a mix of water and glycerin was a way of keeping them fresh. I'm sorry that I cannot be more helpful than that but there are lots of knowledgeable people on the forum and I'm sure that you will get some very sound advice. If you try searching 'glycerin to preseve flowers' online you might find help. Good luck!

  • Thank you for the feedback.  We have some glycerin and I found a site that describes the process. I  will give it a try.
