Dahlia Gall

Starting to lift my dahlias to put away for next year but at least half have gall. I’ve read that it can be spread through an open wound. Assuming that the open wound could be from dead heading with a secateurs. So would I be able to stop spread by disinfecting secateurs in a weak bleach solution, each time I dead head a different plant? Thanks

It more likely been brought in on a new tuber and spread through the soil then affecting tuber through broken roots / damaged tuber. Avoid planting in the same spot for few years or get rid of soil in pots . And throw away the gall infected plants . I suppose you could do the bleach thing or jeyes fluid , I use boiling water to disinfect secateurs not viable for dead heading though
You shouldn't need to disinfect secateurs if you don't have stock infected with gall .
