Brown spots on ash leaves

Been growing well over the last few months but noticed these brown spots on the leaves over the last few weeks. Plant still looks rather healthy. Is this normal for the time of year or is there a disease problem?

I think it's the time of year.
The leaves will start to yellow over the coming weeks before they drop.

It looks like it's in a pot which it will not like.
It'll be far happier and healthier in the ground.

  • Thank you. I am going to plant it out into its final place before it gets too cold.
  • Just a thought - are you aware how large they grow and how fast? They can soon become hard or nearly impossible to move, which can be expensive if it becomes necessary.
I love ash trees and have several in my very large garden, but they are not suitable for everyone. Most of mine are  currently struggling with ash dieback, but the beautiful mother tree is holding out so far.

Indeed @Buttercupdays, and IMO, they aren't very attractive until mature, when they look completely different. They're everywhere round here, but mostly in hedgerows and field borders. There's a particularly nice one up the road from me beyond the farm, and it gorgeous in winter.
Not ideal for a small space though.  :)

We had two in this garden … we got rid of one … the other is costing us £500 every three years just to keep it a manageable and safe size … the time is coming when either we or the tree will have to go 😢

  • I think it is a natural process of plants getting ready for the winter shutdown. I have noticed on my walks with my dog a lot of tree and plant leaves showing black or brown spots on the leaves.
I have an ash seedling growing in my garden. It is now a healthy 20ft tall, the mother tree is on the other side of the garden and also doing well. I just have to keep my fingers crossed that they do not succumb to ash die-back which has been killing the ash trees around the local village green a couple of miles away.
