Same here in Scotland. Our bees are all over it ..... almost sounds like a swarm. The pollen and nectar will set them up nicely for winter. The red admirals like it too.
It's such a great plant ... so a shame it gets a bit of a bad press.

A single bee creates just one twelfth of a teaspoon of honey in her lifetime
Mine is flowering, and the only difference is that it's a bit earlier than usual. It always does well round here though. Mahonia's out too, which is a bit earlier than usual, but it's been very, very mild.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I'm going to need to have a really good sniff now. But I've been trimming the non flowering shoots and haven't noticed the slightest whiff of anything.
