White mould/fungus in sleepers

Hello, looking for some advice. Moved into my home just over a year ago, garden had been landscaped with sleepers by previous owners. I've noticed white mould/fungus growing in the sleepers, coming out the bare and soil side, top and bottom. Looks like wood damage. Any advice on what it is and if/how possible to treat?

It is probably just fungi and mold responsible for decomposing organic matter - the wooden sleepers, in your case.

I have some patches of this mold on the surface of the soil in my large planters with crop plants growing happily amongst them. It is nothing to worry about as it is not harmful to humans or animals, just unsightly.

You can remove it by scraping it with something like a wire brush (often sold for cleaning barbecue grills) or spraying the sleepers with a dilute bleach solution at the concentration suitable for disinfecting butchers' blocks and countertops.
