Fuchsia plant: losing leaves

I bought a healthy looking hardy fuchsia in June. It flowered a bit - 2 litre plant, looked healthy but since some point in August, the leaves have gradually  been dropping. Some leaves look dry. I have been watering it regularly. I planted it out in early September. Is it normal for fuchsias to react to changing circumstances like this and if so, is this likely to be a phase before it adjusts to its new position or something else?  I cannot be sure what is going on. Therexare only a few leaves left. The photo is a bit fuzzy but is the best I can manage unfortunately.

    Hardy doesn’t mean evergreen.

    What variety is it?

  • It was sold to me as Magellanica ' Mrs W.P. Wood' , it had a few pale pink flowers between June and August, typically one or two in bud at a time. It is disappointing and underwhelming and now many stems are brown and white and dead. A few stems are alive: these have a few green small leaves by the base.

i wouldn’t worry about it for now,  at the end of February you’ll be cutting it right back to the ground,  it should start to shoot out properly then.

  • Thanks @lyn. I suppose it is October (though very mild and there was a heatwave recently). Shall I cut out the dead stems now?

I would leave it for now,  it will help with frost protection, end of February/start of March is the time to cut them down.

It still looks bare. Everything else is growing. Might it be a teabag death?😢

Don't fret yet.  Some of my fuchsias have leaves, but others look like dead twigs.  They'll come to life as it gets warmer.
