Could be a horse chestnut. Cut it open and see.

Ah no, I’d recognise horse chestnut, aren’t they spiky?
Walnut ahhhh there is a walnut tree next door. It couldn’t have got where it is and buried by itself though.

Agree Walnut...Juglans regia.
Do open it up.

Ah OK. Looks just like that, but I will open it. It’s a rather beautiful tree they have next door.
I’ve never seen a squirrel here. There could be some, just that I haven’t seen any. They do trap and kill them.

Why do our walnuts not develop. We get what looks like a walnut but when collected they are empty. This is still while they are on the tree.
