Painting

Not a gardening problem but does anybody recognise this painting where it is? Visited my mum yesterday 95 years young in a care home and got talking about this painting in her room she bought a lot of years ago but she can’t remember where but thinks it’s Yourkshire coast thanks in advance…

  • Allowing for artists' license, the view could be anywhere on the coast of Britain. Who is the artist as that may give a clue to the location? Also, possibly, the date when it was painted may help you.

Could it be Robin Hood's Bay in Yorkshire?

  • RHB was my first thought too
  • Looking at the buildings, my first thought was Crail in Fife, but i'm probably wrong.

  • Yes Robin Hoods Bay. There is an ornamental sheep that now stands just inside the fenced area.

If this painting is of Robin Hood's Bay then it seems that it is a bit of a fantasy version of the village. I have looked at old pictures of the place and there is nothing that corresponds to this view.
  • Bottom right it looks like the artist has added something as this would be the sea.
