I looks very much like a rose Andy
Could it be a sucker from a nearby rose?
Or was there a rose in that place some time ago that may have resprouted?

    Billericay - Essex

Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • Thanks Pete.8 I dont remember cutting a rose bush but it is right next to garden pathway so maybe i did at some time.
Dark now so will have a look to see if any rose bush is near by tomorrow.
My garden just seems to do its own thing and i just cut back etc.

Are the leaves purple/ red underneath? If yes, it could be rosa glauca. They self seed but it would take a few years to get to that size.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • I'll have a look tomorrow in light. Can't remember it being there last year.
  • Ah yes it is a rose. I was concentrating on its height, but at the ground level it is surrounded by another shrub and in it are a few rose hips on thin branch that go to the tall stems.
I think the stems were lodged in the leylandi tree and not that visible but this year its now leaning over because of its height and stands out.
Theres no purple in the leaves but i found rose at other side of garden that the top leaves match those of the other and they have purple on the top leaves.

B3 i looked up Rosa glauca and there it was same leaves. Bet its flowered without me noticing. I will though next summer be watching it.

    Pete.8 i looked up suckers , i think that's what they are
