Issue with Cerinthe Major Purpurascens

I planted some of these in the spring and they were doing really well. Lots of healthy leaves and flowers. Now though many leaves of the plants have begun to dry out and turn black with white spots. I'm a newbie gardener, so maybe this is what happens, but I'm not sure! Could someone advise please? Many thanks :)

    It's what they do.
They flower, set seed then die.
You should be able to spot plenty of seeds, they're quite big. The you can sow them in the Spring

They’ll die off now and hopefully drop some seeds ready for next year. If they’ve already dropped seeds you can pull them out and put them in your compost heap.

  • Ahhhh ok. Thank you. Sorry for the silly question! I'm just learning.

Not a silly question at all, and welcome to the forum :)

  • You will have lots of these from quite early next year. And they are cheaper than paying £3 for 12 seeds!

A good few years ago I invested in some very expensive seeds for Cerinthe. Described as tender and unusual. I grew it in a previous garden before moving here, where it arrived, self-sown in pots, and I have had it ever since. It pops up in various spots so I just lift the plants in Spring and put them where I want them or just leave the seedlings to do their own thing. Bees adore it and many people ask what it is, several babies have been given to friends.
Despite it looking rather ugly as it begins to die back in the autumn I love it. I think the weather extremes this year may have been too much for mine as I haven't noticed any growing. Will have to replace them.
