Tranquil spot, shame about the orchard

Came across this tranquil spot in Woolacombe Devon owned by the NT. There’s a newly planted heritage apple orchard. Unfortunately it’s right in the path of prevailing winds coming straight down the valley. Trees are just holding on to life. Shame the NT didn’t ask for some advice.

  • I would be very surprised if NT didn't seek advice.
But maybe not from a local who understands about the gales.
Pity..such a waste of money...fruit trees are not cheap.

  • A few years ago I made a donation to the NT  to plant a tree in memory of a family member who died of covid. No plaque but part of a large scheme to increase the number of trees on their sites. You couldn't ask for the tree to be planted at a specific site and it was an xmas gift for a family member.  Sad to see for anyone who made such a donation.
However I do agree with @Silver surfer the NT have access to good advice  and of course not all of these trees will survive.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
