Weed or dig ?

I have four vegetable beds.
In a week or twos time they will be empty. Do I need to weed them prior to digging for winter or can I simply dig over ?
Thanks

We don't dig ours anymore.  We weed out nasties like bindweed as much as we can then rake level and mulch with cardboard and then garden compost or strimmings from the grass and wildflowers we left long over summer.

  • On a weedy bed that is otherwise in good heart I would ‘fork over’ weeding as I go, rather than dig over properly.

It's up to you.  Digging and turning the soil is traditional.  If you regard that as the simplest, do that.
