  • @jazexpress43sMxwMe Moss can be a sign of poor drainage so as you say breaking up the soil with compost etc is good.  You will be limited when it comes to evergreens.

    Euonymous Emerald and Gold lights up a dark spot. Put it with the perennial Japanese Anemone Honorine Jobert white flowers yellow centres, white works well in shade.

    Add the sweet box [dislikes a windy site] plus carex as mentioned. Then an evergreen fern such as Polystichum setiferum, you will have different leaf shapes/ colour/texture. You only have a small space but repeating the same plant works well if you can. 

    Sounds like a recipe when you read it back!
