greenhouse doors

As many will know, greenhouses such as the Halls that I have come with no easy means to secure the door closed.
I've tried many home made solutions and trawled the internet but surprisingly nobody seems to sell a simple latch/lock kit.
How have you solved this problem ?
At the moment the door is secured with bits of wire looped through holes I've drilled in door and frame but that is unlikely to hold the door securely enough to withstand the 60 mph winds forecast for this week..

I've solved the problem by having crap greenhouses with sticky doors. :#  Can you drill into the runners and drop a bolt in to stop the wheels moving?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

We have a hole drilled in the  top runner with a tent peg to secure.

If the offending greenhouse is aluminium framed, I think you'll find a useful investment will be a pop rivet gun (not expensive) and a chat to your local DIY shop for a solution.

Just use one of these clamps or more if you wish. You just leave it clamped to one side of the door when opened so its always there for when you clamp/close the greenhouse.

  • Any chance of a picture showing where you clip them ?
I have some clips like that but I can't see where exactly to put them- they just slide off.
or maybe mine aren't strong enough.

I'm just using my old gclamp at the moment but as I use it quite often for other reasons I've ordered the nirox clamps.

You could try a DIY latch/lock using materials readily available at hardware stores, reinforce the door with additional hardware, or fabricate a latch mechanism yourself.
If you're having trouble finding what you need, it's worth checking out www.usafiredoor.com. While they primarily focus on commercial door frames, they should also have hardware or accessories that could be adapted for your greenhouse door.
