has said some of what I was thinking when I read through.
If the lavender is doing well then the fuchsia won't do well. Lavender likes dry and sunny, fuchsia prefers moist and shady.
The ivy needs pruning, the area needs compost dug in with a layer left on top as a mulch. Then you can plant plants that like sun.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
