Seed viability?

Hi all.  I found some poached-egg plant (Limnanthes Douglassii) seeds just as I was planning to stick some green manure into my raised veg beds.  But they're "sow by 2017"  Anyone think there's any point me even trying these and wasting my time forlornly looking for germination in 3 weeks? :)

If they are in a sealed packet I would give it a go.
  • Agree with @fidgetbones If the packet is sealed, it's always worth a go.  Sow By can often be rather like Best Before on food  ;)

They are sealed.  I had some success over the winter with some 10-year "out of date" wallflower seeds(!), but know some seeds are more touchy than others - carrots springing to mind.  I'll give it a go as you both say and buy some Phacelia in the mean time.  Thanks!
