Why aren't these trees regrowing after topping?

  • Thanks so much for everyone's thoughts, we hugely appreciate it! 🙏🙏🙏 For those who were wondering, yes it was a proper tree surgeon and sadly they didn't advise us on this :(

    You will still get growth from the green ends.  Thes will turn upwards, but it will take decades to look any good.

    It also depends on what you asked them [tree surgeons] to do. They wouldn't be obliged to tell you they wouldn't regrow from that if you just said they were too big and you wanted them topped, or to have a certain amount removed from the main trunks.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....



    I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
