Prune my schefflera arboricola or not?

edited September 2023 in Problem solving
Hi,
I have a big Schefflera Arboricola that I repotted a year ago. It is now grown quite a bit, and there is a big side branch that I wonder if I should prune or not, to give more energy to the rest of the plant and a nicer shape.
What do you think? Should I keep it and tie it tight to the plant to maintain a good shape?
Thank you all!

Tie it in and repot into a larger one ,is what I’d do .
  • Thank you. I'm just afraid that if I repot it into a larger one it'd grow too big for the room.
  • They take hard pruning. You could cut the whole thing down to a few inches and it would re-grow.

  • I took the plunge and took 2 cuttings off my rather unruly Umbrella plant about 5ft tall after advice from Balham.Hill .Took a few weeks in a glass of water but they grew lots of roots and now I have 2 new young plants aswell as my Big mother plant in my Lounge
  • They are a fun plant to play around with. I buried a rock with 2 cuttings on top of them, and waited a while then dug the rock up. The roots had grown around the rock, and i replanted it by sitting the rock on the surface in a large bonsai pot. That was around 10 years ago, and the plant is only about 10 inches tall through regular pruning. The stem and roots have become woody and tree like.

  • Oops Balgay.Hill just reading back and I see predictive text jumped in on my post. Your post was very informative  Thanks
  • Thank you all for the comments! I think I'll cut the side branch, with the hope of giving more energy to the top and bottom of the plant. I'll try to make a bonsai around a rock with the cut! Love it!

    Hello
In my opinion, don't prune it unless you want to propagate Schefflera
