What type of willow tree could this be?

I spotted a guy planting a new tree in our community garden where I had planted several trees myself in the past few months, plus we had a mystery tree planter gift us with a walnut tree during that period of time. 

English didn't seem to be his first language, but he was able to say the tree he was planting is a willow tree he has grown at home. He wouldn't tell me the exact type it was. 

I really appreciated the addition of another tree to our garden, however I was wondering exactly what type of willow tree it could be or if it isn't even a willow tree what type of tree it could be.

  • Definitely looks like a Salix of some sort … but at this stage of the game it’s very hard to say which … there are a lot … keep an eye open for catkins in the spring … a photo or two of them might help us.
