I've just pulled up my beetroots & they all have what looks like gold leaf all over the roots 😅 has anyone seen this before? It wasn't in the soil before & I'm not sure what it is, some kind of chemical reaction or what. Are they safe to eat?

If it washes off under a running tap, they'll be fine. If I had gold flakes in my soil, I'd be borrowing a metal detector. Buried treasure?

Have you added expanded vermiculite to your soil, either potting or seed or old stuff tipped on the garden?

No I used a bag of compost from homebase and it definitely wasn't in it then. I just left them untouched & didn't add anything
