New fig tree leaf possible problems.

I put the info to Fruit & Veg on 15 September  and thought I was wrong! [ I'm new garderer]

Does anyone know what it is that is affecting the fig tree leaves in the 2 photographs. I purchased it online and the leaves were like it when it was delivered. What do I need to do to ensure that my tree remains healthy.

I looked at your link and it seems you had a sensible reply.  :)
The new growth low down looks fine.
Old foliage will die off, as with any deciduous plant.  That's perfectly normal and doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem.  :)
If it's staying in a pot it'll need a suitable mix to grow in - not just compost, so you'll need to bear that in mind. Compost is no good for plants, especially woody ones, long term.  It will also need food, but it isn't something I would ever grow, so someone else will help you with that.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Hopefully, someone may be able to advise you further but if it is only the old single leaf which is affected, you could simply remove it and ensure you keep to the correct care regime for your tree.
I'm surprised that it arrived like that as most reputable suppliers would ensure that the plant looked in good condition before sending it out.
If more than 1 leaf is affected and you are unable to diagnose the cause,  you could contact the supplier ( adding a photo if possible ) and say you aren't happy with your purchase and request a replacement or a refund.
    Good luck :)

It could just be a leaf looking tatty at the end of the season but it could also be rust. What is the underside of the leaf like? Is there any evidence of spores? Take a photo of both sides of the leaf as a reference in case you need to complain to the supplier, then remove the affected leaf.

It just looks like it has been bashed about a bit.  I happens when wrapped for internet sales.  Joungest leaf most delicate.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.

  • Thank you to everyone who wrote with suggestions.
As whatever the problem is on the leaves it is on several leaves therefore I will be contacting the supplier tomorrow.
