Wormery with Flies

Hi all, we have a wormery which is working well - lots of worms!! We keep it outside in summer but bring it inside in winter. Recently we have a lot of flies (fruit flies maybe), which inhabit the wormery. Is this inevitable or can they be controlled / reduced / eliminated?

I have the same in my raw compost bin in the garden.  I leave them alone which prompts me to ask if you need to get rid of them?
  • The wormery is brought inside for the winter - preferably without flies! But I do take your point that they are probably inevitable. We should just like to reduce them somewhat.

  • I asked Mellors about his wormery and he says there will almost always be flies due to the type of materials used. (He feeds his worms melon!). He doesn't bring it indoors but it is in a very shletered spot and insulted with cardboard and stuff to protect the tiny worms in bad weather.
