Ferns - Tips appreciated for growing "Arachnoides Aristata Variegata" in outside pot
I just got my first ever fern. I want to try give it a good chance to thrive.
I got it to go in the terracotta pot in the picture. It will be in an outdoor porch, north facing, all shaded but with light reflecting in.
I'm thinking the pot might be rather small and too well draining, but I hope the pot isn't too small. I specfically got this fern for this location (the pot is mounted on the wall with a nail in a hole in the back), because it's so shaded there.
I was thinking of lining the pot with black plastic and putting some holes in the side of the plastic, not the bottom.
I really don't know what soil is best for going in the pot. I really can't tell from the internet what I should use - maybe 1/2 garden soil, 1/2 all purpose compost, a handful of tiny stones?
Any suggestions for the best soil, or any other care tips are much appreciated.
Mediums I have available are soil from the garden, all purpose compost, finer potting compost (I think), sand, small stones (a bit larger than gravel), broken pottery pieces, bone meal, and miracle grow all purpose plant food, various fertilisers like chicken pellets, rose food, tomato food.
