Just bear in mind that watering is also dependent on where you are, and therefore how much rainfall you get. That's why the soil structure and drainage are important in a raised bed. Where I am for example, you wouldn't be needing to water anything just now As @Loxley said, often these shrubs are grown undercover, so they can be a bit soft. They should be fine once they've had a season or two to get accustomed to your site and conditions. Those varieties can also withstand a fair amount of sun, but it's always a consideration with hydrangeas, and again - your location is a factor as some areas are far hotter than others.

Somebody else mentioned shade... I grow my pannicle hydrangeas Inc Annabelle in full shade along north facing 6ft fences/garage wall. They maybe get an hour of sun first thing in the morning before I wake up! But they do really well and flower beautifully. The main thing is that the soil in those locations tends to stay damp, especially as I add a thick layer of bark each year.
