Climbing bean seed pods

Hello. Have grown, successfully and for the first time this summer, climbing beans. Crops have been really good and the plant continues to produce flowers; don’t know if any more crops will come? However some pods have gone to seed, and rattle around in the pod. Seeds are a creamy white. Are these ready for storage in envelopes/air tight container for next year? Thanks in advance 👍🏻.

  • We have similar issues with pea beans. I leave them in their pods and allow them to dry out completely on a tray in the garden room. Then they are put in an paper bag and stored in a cool place. The following year then they are sown and we get the next generation. If we have too many at a time I get the seeds out and cook them and then freeze them for later in the year.

    Thank you.
  • You don't say which variety you have but if they rattle about in the pod then you can do as @bertrand-mabel suggests or you can make sure they are  completely dry and store in an air tight jar for use in cooking.
Whichever method you choose, they will not be wasted  :)

You've had good advice.  They look ready to save so I always place mine on a tray and keep them over the winter on the floor of the airing cupboard (hot press in Ireland).
  • It's a hot press! Airing cupboard...phshaww! 🤣
  • We dry them and keep them to cook and eat, but I keep the biggest separate as seed for next year.
