Do chillies continue to grow after ripening?

Hi all, I have several chillies on my chilli plant that have all ripened and turned red, however they are all very small - if I keep them on the plant and continue to feed and water will the chillies grow any bigger? Or have they finished growing once they turn red?

Yes, by the time they've turned red they should be picked - that will encourage more to grow - but it's getting late in the season for more to fully grow from flower to fruit.

What variety are they? Some are small. I grew Apache a couple of years ago and the chillies were tiny and seedy, not fleshy. Pretty hot as well. I made them into chilli jelly with some red peppers to add bulk and colour.

I realize I didn't answer the question you posed... No, once the chili has turned properly red it won't grow any bigger.
One of the varieties I'm growing this year is Basket of Fire - they're about 1" long when red and ready to pick.
I put 2 into my dinner last night (sea bream in crazy water) and my tongue was numb for about 2 hours! 😁

  • @Pete.8 pick my BOF when they are yellow with purple on them (before going red) still quite hot, but not as much as when fully ripe (red)

I could do that, but I like a challenge :)
