  • So beautiful, all of them @CrankyYankee. And I'm 100% with you on light, which you use brilliantly (pun intended!). You just cannot beat backlighting.

Too dark? No, I don't think so, that's your style and it works incredibly well. I go the other way, sometimes too light maybe, but that's me. Photography is primarily about creating images that please ourselves and if they please others as well it's an added bonus.

So on that subject, here's a shot from last year that I posted on a French photography forum. It got slated, including a very rude 'tut tut' waggy finger from someone. I am no longer on that forum. But what do you think?

  • I like it, @NormandyLiz !  White on white is hard and parts of the flower seem to get a little lost, but I think it gives it an ethereal feel.

Metacomet soil with hints of Woodbridge and Pillsbury

  • @Fire had me searching for one I took last year.

    Beautiful North Wales - hiraeth
  • Lovely photos @CrankyYankee, I really like your style and lightings effects.  I'm still trying to find the subtle button in my software!

  • On the 'subtle button', @Plantminded, it's definitely harder to find than the full on effects button when you start getting into processing. I think we've all fallen into the trap. For me, the answer is in improving your (as in everyone's not 'you') photography so you rely less on processing. It's great to know what these softwares can do and there is no harm in using them, but photography (for me) getting the underlying photograph as good as possible first. Composition, use of lighting and manual controls of the camera, then processing.
