  • Like, very much. You beat me to it with the cobwebs.
    They'll be lots more chances.

You do need a camera rather than a phone and either a very steady hand or a tripod for this. This was without tripod.
I achieve this kind of shot using a long lens (70-300mm) and taking multiple shots in quick succession, so at least one is sharp enough to use.  As I've grown older and having had multiple wrist injuries I'm not as steady as I once was.  This shot was one like that.

I'm glad there is a thread for tricksy shots with fancy cameras. The photos are amazing and a joy to look at  but we also need to keep threads for gardeners with bog standard cameras and limited photography skills who would like to share photos of their plants and gardens.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • I guess I'd say I do have a bog standard camera, it's a rather old middle of the range DSLR, although I'll give you that the macro lens makes a difference. It's more that I've learned how to use it and have some tricks that make photos better. I also take lots and lots of shots, as @CrankyYankee says, so have lots to choose from!

There is also processing to bear in mind, just a tweak to lightness can make a huge difference, and there is free software or you can do it on your smartphone if that's what you're using.

Rather than have separate threads with an 'us and them' feel, I'd hope everyone can post everywhere. I'd also be happy to pass on what I know for anyone who wants to improve, regardless of what they're shooting with.
  • Everyone everywhere works for me.
There are photo threads which have no interest for me as I can look at a catalogue for those but the others I find absolutely fascinating.
    Keep them coming!

For something completely different.  I like this shot very much and it gives me an idea of how I would really like my garden to be -  high and wild and magical. In fact, I'm just crouching in a bush.

  • That's beautiful, @fire

Dew is hard, @rowlandscastle444. For me, it has to be pin sharp and close up, or a real statement like a load of cobwebs on a fence or something, and no/minimal background.

I can't promise to use only my phone, but I will aim for a decent proportion using my phone and free, straightforward editing software. A couple of quickies from this morning, taken on my phone and touched up using a freebie called Canva.com.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sometimes keeps bolted lettuce!
