Giant scabiosa self seeding?

They have been a true highlight this year! How much should I fear self seeding?
I'm guessing that if they self seed, they shoot a long root downwards pretty quick and are harder to pull out, like dandelions?
Do you remove the seed heads or leave for the birds?

I dead head them. They tend to spread sideways and need splitting after a number of years.
  • Thanks!
  • It tried deadheading them to see if they'll produce new flower stalks, but they didn't. same for yours?

Cephalaria? Mine self seed like mad but the seedlings are quite easy to recognise and also quite easy to remove when young. They do have a tap root but in my experience it takes a while to get big, so nothing to be afraid of.

  • Throwback Friday. You were so right! There were at least 100 seedlings, but they look very distinct, just like sunflower seedlings. The biggest and strongest one decided to flower again.
