Weird crawlies on washing line

Does anyone know what these are? They were on my washing line this morning. The long strip was sticky and I had to scrape it off the line. The little things crawl like caterpillars but don't think that's what they are

    Yeah it was caterpillars. Moths sometimes lay eggs along washing lines mistaking it for plant stems. I've had it a few times on mine.
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Ah, thanks for that! I couldn't believe how many there were! Wasn't quite sure what to do with them.
